Rise of the Runelords - [GoodOmens]

Additional Conditions

I have some additional conditions that will help with the conversion of this AP into 4E. Please take a look and see if they are interesting, and not exceptionally broken.

Exhausted

  • You are slowed.
  • You are weakened.
  • You cannot provide a flank, nor take advantage of a flank for Combat Advantage.
  • You have a -2 to Saving Throws (excluding Death Saving Throws).

Nauseated

  • You are slowed.
  • You can’t take standard actions.
  • You take a –2 penalty to attack rolls and defenses.

Shaken

  • On your turn, you lose your Minor Action.
  • You grant Combat Advantage.
  • You cannot provide a flank, nor take advantage of a flank for Combat Advantage.

-Two out of three? Pretty much a complete shut-down. Being under any of these for more than one round would be… frustrating. Table-flippingly frustrating. Monsters already get quite a few unbelievable conditions that we cannot impose in return. Not to mention the fact that there are no feat-related ways to defend against these.

Anyone else?

Additional Conditions

I could see house-ruling existing feats applying to these conditions as well. Such as Superior Will also applying to Shaken – it is intended to be a lesser version of Daze.

Shaken < Daze < Stunned

I have been going back and forth on versions of Exhausted. There are some very nasty effects from the AP that I have been trying to find a way to convert into 4E. This is one of the other versions that I was working with:

Exhausted

  • You take a -4 penalty to Athletics, Acrobatics, and Initiative Checks.
  • You cannot provide a flank, nor take advantage of a flank for Combat Advantage.
  • You have a -2 to Saving Throws (excluding Death Saving Throws).

Additional Conditions

All depends on how long we’re subject to any of these conditions before they can be removed. If conditions that could only be removed by spells and rest, (ability damage, ongoing conditions like exhausted,) were removed because one of 4th Ed’s main goals was to streamline things and give the game a more fast-paced, high-adventure feel, then adding them back in doesn’t really add anything to the game.
The counterbalance to this being that you can now only take one extended rest in a 24-hour period no matter what. No ongoing conditions, (except diseases,) is part of the give-and-take that comes from not being able to refresh some of our most powerful resources whenever we want.

Now, on to contributing productively. Normally I’m not a huge fan of any added card bullshit, but I read awhile back that Gloomwrought and Beyond would include the Despair Deck, which interested me quite a bit. That seemed like a good way to include ongoing negative conditions: Add a benefit for overcoming them. They are undoubtedly tricky to write yourself, but certainly not impossible. I would take a look and see if any of them can be flavored and modified appropriately to suit any of the three conditions you have in mind.

Additional Conditions

Coincidentally, I had already planned on including them in the current adventure to represent some of the strange spell effects and Haunts included within Skinsaw Murders.

They have combat effects but they are small because they are hard to remove. I was looking for things that capture some of the immediate – and quickly overcome’able – situation modifiers.
